Quake 3 Arena (even though it has been out since 1999) has been reborn in the LANage Bunker. I am sure that billions of reviews have been written on Quake 3 but I wanted to highlight why.
The gameplay in Q3 is faster paced than any other FPS I have
played. The weapons is Quake 3 are all speed weapons (rockets, rail, BFG). Gameplay
in Quake 3 is always a blistering mach 1 with your hair on fire!>
CTF matches really increase the playability of Q3 because it
allows for a little strategy. Which is nice for players like me who are not
nearly as wicked as some of the LANage guys like Tobycat, Kanuck and Jman.
DM maps are just plain fun. But they can get a little boring.
But having said that, Q3 is played at every single lan that LANage ever hosts...so
there you go!
Multiplayer (the stuff that matters):
Quake 3 is the game
(IMHO) that defined multiplayer, although Quake II and Unreal should be considered
as the pioneers. Q3 took it to a whole new level, speed, good graphics and ROCK
SOLID network support. Many other games leave you with something to be desired
when it comes to network support and ease of setting up servers. Q3 server setup
is a no brainer, due largely in part to the massive amount of info online. Playing
with up to 32 players with out massive problems is a hallmark of Q3 and any
other game made with it's engine (ala Medal of Honor and RTCW, ET, CoD).
