When you think of vast and indepth RTS games, AOE II should be at the top of your list. The game has a great number of civilizations to control, and outstanding replay value.
Each civ in AOE II has special units that are unique to their civilizations, such as the Long Bowman (British), and the Berserkers (Vikings) which are a sight to be seen.
Graphics, playability, and well-balanced gameplay put this one over the top.
Multiplayer (the stuff that matters):
AOE II has very strong multiplay capabilities, it rarley crashes but if it does there is an option to restore a multiplay game. Very cool! The only down side is that in an epic battle where there are many civs either AI or human, the game will slow down when there are lots of units in battle. And having a super machine does not seem to increase performance in this area.
AOE II: The Age of Kings is the Starcraft of medieval times. This is a must purchase for anyone who enjoys Real Time Strategy (RTS) games.
